Fu Yuan Teochew Dining opened its first restaurant at Clarke Quay in December 2024 and has since been steadily establishing itself as a destination for modern Teochew dining alongside a strong dim sum offering. The restaurant currently holds an impressive 4.8-star rating from over 1,600 reviews on Google Maps. It’s an encouraging indication that the Fu Yuan team is clearly doing something right.
For those living around the Bukit Timah area, there’s good news. Fu Yuan Teochew Dining has recently opened a second outlet at Greenwood Avenue, bringing its contemporary take on Teochew cuisine and dim sum closer to home.
We visited the new outlet for another review and found that, although the restaurant is smaller than its Clarke Quay counterpart, it maintains the same comprehensive menu, with a continued focus on fresh seafood and quality ingredients.

Teochew Dishes
Steamed Soon Hock Teochew Style

If it is classic Teochew dishes that you are after, you won’t be disappointed with the Teochew-style steamed Soon Hock at Fu Yuan Teochew Dining. As with any Teochew preparation, the most important element is the quality of the fish.
For a restaurant that prides itself on Teochew cuisine, the Soon Hock here is as fresh as it gets. Live fish is used, wild-caught when available, resulting in flesh that is firm, springy, and impeccably clean-tasting.
The classic Teochew steaming sauce is made from salted mustard greens, fish sauce, and pickled plums. It is well balanced, neither overpowering nor muted, allowing the natural sweetness of the fish to shine through. The fish itself is perfectly steamed, striking that ideal point where the flesh is just set yet still moist and silky.
Braised Meats

One of the most famous dishes in Chaoshan cuisine is braised meats. What makes Teochew-style braising distinctive is its very light, almost watery braising liquid.
One notable improvement to their braised meats is the use of Irish duck. Known for its superior marbling, Irish duck yields meat that is both tender and flavourful. I also found the braised beef shank to be more flavourful on this visit.

If you enjoy liver, you should also order a portion of the Braised Foie Gras where they use duck and not goose liver. It is done very nicely without any hint of gaminess. Not quite as rich as foie gras, but still a real treat for liver lovers.

We also noticed an improvement in the Chai Poh Hor Fun. The Fu Yuan team has tweaked the sauce for more flavour and added more crispy and chunky pork lard!
Fu Yuan Signatures
“猪肚鸡” (Zhu Du Ji)

Fu Yuan Teochew Dining’s signature pig stomach soup stuffed with a whole French poulet remains one of its most popular dishes.
What we appreciated most was its restraint. The soup is not overly peppery, allowing the natural sweetness and depth of the broth to come through. The pig stomach is impeccably handled. There is no trace of offal flavour, resulting in a clean and comforting finish.
The soup’s golden hue is achieved through the addition of pumpkin purée. That gives it a bright, vibrant, and thoroughly appetizing appearance.
Crispy “Bing Chuan” Brinjal

Another signature dish we were excited to try again is their crispy “Bing Chuan” brinjal. What makes this dish special is the brinjal itself, which is specially imported from China.
Its texture is wonderfully creamy, providing a lovely contrast to the crisp exterior. Definitely one of our must-order dishes there!
White and Green Asparagus

One of the new dishes that pleasantly surprised us was the scallops with white and green asparagus. This was our first time encountering white asparagus in a Chinese restaurant, and pairing it with green asparagus provided a lovely contrast. The Australian scallops were exceptionally sweet and worked beautifully with their house-made XO sauce which we found to be full of umami without being overly spicy.
Boston Lobster with Pumpkin Sauce

I also enjoyed the pumpkin sauce, which was well balanced without being overly rich. The restaurant keeps live Boston lobsters in tanks, so their quality is assured.
This pictured portion is good for 1-2 pax.
Dim Sum

Although they are positioned as a modern Teochew restaurant, they also offer Cantonese-style dim sum for lunch. This fills a niche for those looking to enjoy dim sum in the Bukit Timah area.
The dim sum items are made fresh daily so you can be assured of its quality.

The quality of the dim sum is very good overall. As noted in our previous post, they have a highly experienced dim sum chef at the helm, which ensures a consistent level of excellence.
As with their main dishes, they try to give their dishes a little twist to make them special. Two good examples are the Steamed Truffle Char Siew Bun and the Steamed Durian Custard buns. Since they are a Teochew restaurant, you can also find classic Teochew dim sum like Steamed Teochew Dumpling and desserts like Mashed Taro ‘Orh Nee’ on the menu.

Conclusion
We were a little surprised to find a Chinese restaurant along the stretch of shophouses at Greenwood, an area more commonly associated with cafés and European eateries. That said, the team has pulled it off quite well.
The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating, complemented by elegant tableware. The décor is warm and inviting, with subtle Chinese motifs. Backed by a highly experienced team, Fu Yuan Teochew Dining at Greenwood is well worth a visit, especially if you’re looking for Teochew/Chinese cuisine in the Bukit Timah area.
