Cabbage and Yam Brown Rice: Tefal Spherical Bowl Induction Rice Cooker Recipe

Here is my recipe for cabbage yam brown rice recipe which can all be made in one pot!

Brown rice is easy to cook in the Tefal Spherical Pot Induction rice cooker as there is a special program which will pre-soak the rice in hot water before cooking it till it’s nice and fluffy — all with the touch of a button. The cooker can also be used to stir fry the ingredients so that you can do everything in one pot! I think that this dish actually tastes better with brown rice as it adds an extra layer of toasty, nutty flavour and more importantly, it is healthier for you and your family!

If you don’t have a rice cooker which can cook brown rice, then fry the ingredients separately in a pan or wok.  Wash and soak the brown rice for 1 hour.  Drain and fry together with ingredients.  Transfer to normal rice cooker and add 4 cups of hot water and turn on the rice cooker.  15mins from the end, add the cabbage and yam.

Ingredients

Gp A
Dried prawns 50g (Presoaked and drained)
Garlic 4 cloves
Shallots 4 bulbs
Oil 1/4 cup

Gp B
Pork collar 100g
Soya sauce 1 tsp
Cornflour 1 Tbsp
Sesame Oil 2 tsp
Five-spice powder 1/4 tsp
Chinese Sausage 1 sliced
Cabbage 1/2 head cut 2 cm wide strips
Yam 250g diced 2cm cubes
Dried shitake mushrooms 4 (Presoaked, drained and sliced)

Gp C
Water 560ml (3.5cups)
Dashi powder 1 Tbsp (or chicken stock powder)
Dark soy sauce 1 tsp
Brown Rice/Red Cargo Rice mix 2 cup (320ml) Washed and drained

Slice pork collar and marinade with soy sauce, sesame oil, five spice powder and cornflour for 20min. Meanwhile, chop the dried prawns, shallots and garlic. Set Tefal Spherical Bowl Induction Rice Cooker to DIY mode, 160°C, 30mins. Add oil and fry yam for 5 mins. Remove the yam and set aside. Add the chopped ingredients and fry till until fragrant. Add pork, lup cheong and mushrooms and fry till fragrant. Add rice and fry with mixed ingredients for 2 mins. Switch rice cooker to rice cooking mode and set to brown rice. Add the stock and start the rice cooker. After 45mins, add yam and cabbage on top of the rice and continue to cook. Once the cooking cycle is complete, mix all the ingredients and allow to rest for 10mins before serving.
