YUN NANS Festive Sets

We have been fans of YUN NANS ever since they opened their first restaurant in Singapore in 2019. Their chicken soup is one of the best around as they are focused on sourcing fresh ingredients while maintaining authenticity by importing many of their ingredients directly from China.

For CNY, they are serving an impressive Pen Cai served in a rustic clay pot made from the volcanic soil in Tengchong, Yunnan. The collagen soup is smooth and velvety with carrots contributing to its golden hue. This unique Pen Cai would make for an impressive centerpiece of your CNY banquet.

Aside from the Pen Cai the Harmony set also includes other dishes like the Bi Feng Tang” style pork ribs with black truffles where the pork rib is first steamed till tender before being deep fried and topped with a delicious mix of garlic, ginger, and chili.

The highlight for dessert is a special pastry filled with a sweet rose filling that is directly imported from Yunnan. This Rose Pastry is also eaten during CNY in Yunnan.

Harmony Set S$388++ (U.P. S$418++) (for 4)

  • Prosperity Abalone Yu Sheng
  • Yun Nans Prosperity Treasure Hot Pot
  • “Bi Feng Tang” Style Pork Ribs with Truffles
  • Sauteed Golden Oyster Mushroom with Asparagus
  • Braised Truffle Ee-fu Noodles with Fresh Scallops
  • Double Boiled Peach Gum with Snow Pear
  • Freshly Baked Rose Pastry

ENChanko Hot Pot and Kamameshi

ENChanko CNY menu, nabe and kamameishi
Clockwise: Prosperity Yu Sheng $38.80++, Grand Chankonabe $188++, Assorted Premium Seafood Kamameishi $28++, Signature Tori Chankonabe ($30++ for 2 pax)

This is EN Group’s latest Japanese concept, paying homage to traditional Sumo culture. Chankonabe, the staple meal for Sumo wrestlers, has all the protein and nutrition needed to bulk up for the ring. Chicken is the preferred protein, as it’s considered bad luck for Sumo wrestlers to be on four legs. However, at ENChanko, they do have other meats like a pork Chankonabe that comes with innards which should please fans of pig organ soup.

So, what makes Chankonabe different from the normal hotpot? Unlike the usual hotpot where you dip raw meat in the soup, Chankonabe comes with all the ingredients already in the pot. It’s like a cross between Pen Cai and hotpot. We enjoyed the Signature Tori Chankonabe – the collagen soup base is robust, and the ingredients are fresh which makes for a hearty meal.

For CNY, they’ll be serving up the Grand Chankonabe which will have lobster (龙虾, lit Dragon Prawns) and other festive ingredients like abalone, smoked duck, shark fin, and mochi kinchaku (money bags). Remember to pre-order (2 days ahead) and you can add a shot of Jim Beam for an additional $10.

We also want to highlight the Yu Sheng which comes with a generous portion of sashimi salmon and baby abalone!

They also serve Kamameshi or ‘kettle rice’ in Japanese. It is a traditional rice dish that is cooked in a cast iron pot. I like how you’re given extra dashi broth to pour into your pot so you can enjoy it like an ochazuke.

Social Place – Contemporary Hong Kong cuisine

7-course CNY menu (528++ for 6 pax)

The Social Place strives to whisk its patrons away to the sleek and stylish streets of 60s Hong Kong, complete with a retro-chic allure. The walls adorned with mahjong tiles create an air of mystery, as though you are teleported back to olden Hong Kong.

The cuisine presents a modern twist on traditional favorites. We were pleasantly surprised by their animal-themed dim sum, a delightful treat for kids, especially their piggy pudding, which is sure to become a talking point of the meal.

Of particular note is their unique Yu Sheng, a departure from the usual shredded carrots and radish with preserved condiments. Instead, they use fresh ingredients like jackfruit and dragon fruit, crispy sweet potato chips, and lotus roots.

We also enjoyed their version of Pen Cai, featuring a whole spring chicken in the middle, along with sea cucumbers and fish maw. Overall, we found the food to be excellent.

7-course CNY Menu $528++ (for 6 pax)
1. Yu Sheng Bouquet with Alaskan King Crab Meat

Town Restaurant at The Fullerton Hotel Singapore

Suckling Pig, Fish Maw and Crabmeat with Sakura Chicken Soup, Braised Duck with Sea Cucumber and Chestnut, Asian Smoked Duck with Vegetables and Spicy Hoisin Dressing, Mango Passion Entremet and Eight Treasure Pineapple

Located at The Fullerton Hotel Singapore with a beautiful view of the Singapore River, Town Restaurant is the perfect spot for a leisurely breakfast or a buffet meal. During the Chinese New Year period, they are offering a festive buffet that features auspicious dishes like suckling pig and fish maw soup. Their pastry chefs have also specially created desserts to usher in the Year of the Dragon!

We especially liked their Braised Duck with Sea Cucumber and Chestnut. All the different “treasures” were stewed until the umami braising sauce is fully soaked so you get a wonderful unctuous bite.

As with all buffets, the menu changes depending on the time and day. So make sure you check the menu before going.
