Wa-En Wagyu Yakiniku
We have always appreciated the various concepts of the En Group, which is known for delivering authentic Japanese cuisine at competitive prices. In our previous food explorations, we’ve covered Ka-EN and ENChanko. Today, we head to Jewel to experience their Yakiniku concept, featuring premium and delicate A4 and A5 Wagyu from Miyazaki, Japan.
Wa-En Wagyu Yakiniku may be new in Singapore but it’s been operating in Hong Kong for more than 10 years and has even been recommended in the Michelin guide in 2016 & 2017.
We thoroughly enjoyed our Wagyu course and felt it offered excellent value for the price. The A4-A5 Wagyu was of outstanding quality and featured prominently in many dishes. As with other Japanese concepts by the EN Group, they managed to preserve the authenticity of the dishes by using quality rice and sauces mostly imported from Japan.
Deluxe Course S$128++/pax (min 2 pax)
- Appetizer – Asari Clear Soup, Seared Miyazaki Marbled Wagyu Sushi with Ikura, Assorted Kimchi/Namul, Wagyu Saikoro Steak, Japanese Fruit Tomato with Shiquasa jelly
- Yakiniku – (weight indicated is for 2 pax) Deluxe Miyazaki Marbled Wagyu Karubi (80gm), Miyazaki A4-A5 Wagyu Sirloin (60gm), Miyazaki Thin-sliced Wagyu Karubi (Sukiyaki Style) (60gm), Premium Australian Thick-Cut Wagyu Beef Tongue (40gm), Hokkaido Pork Belly (80gm), Chicken Thigh (80gm), Fresh Lettuce
- Rice/Noodles – Choice of Mini Wagyu Steak Jyu, Mini Morioka Cold Noodles, Mini Wagyu Suji Inaniwa Udon or Mini Wagyu Suji Nikomi with rice
- Dessert – Ice cream of the day
These days, a Yakiniku meal featuring A4-A5 Wagyu can easily cost more than S$200/pax at a high-end restaurant! This is therefore a fantastic option for those seeking a top-grade wagyu experience without burning a hole in the pocket. Well, maybe a smaller hole.
We love that the restaurant offers a view of the famed Jewel Vortex Fountain. The table grills are also highly effective in ensuring that the smoke does not get into your hair or clothes.

665oF at Andaz Singapore
If you’re looking for a serious steakhouse with a cozy atmosphere and a great view, 665°F might just fit the bill. Located on the 38th floor of Andaz Singapore, this meat-centric restaurant incorporating Southeast Asian flavours offers an experience reminiscent of the Great Gatsby era. While we only featured their Denver steaks, their à la carte menu includes 12 different cuts of beef. They range from prime to secondary cuts, all sourced from boutique farms across the globe.
One of the key distinguishing features of the restaurant is their PIRA Oven grill. 665°F might seem very hot, but many steakhouses boast of broilers that reach 1000°F. The beauty of the PIRA Oven lies in its ability to smoke and char the steak at a lower, gentler temperature, preventing the meat from being “shocked” too much. What you end up with is a very juicy and succulent piece of meat!
Smoked-kissed Five Course Signature Dinner Set
We experienced their Five-Course Signature Dinner Set (S$158++/pax) that was competently executed with slight touches of Asian flavors, such as their Laksa-flavored Lobster Thermidor. The Snake River Wagyu Beef Denver steak, a cut taken from the Chuck primal (known as Zabuton in Japan, a premium cut for Yakiniku), was flavorful and tender. It has more of a bite than a striploin steak.
From the Smoked Salmon starter, Crab Cake on Ssamjang Aioli to the Lobster Minestrone soup and even Ganache Tart and Tiramisu Mascarpone, the chef skilfully infused a smoky flavour into each dish. Notably, they use locally sourced Angsana wood which imparts a unique and distinctive smoky aroma to the dishes.
Stunning views of the Marina Area
The Cellar, a cozy extension of the restaurant, offers an intimate setting with breathtaking views of the Marina Bay area from its lofty vantage point. It was here that we filmed our video.

Barossa Bar and Grill
Barossa Bar and Grill is an excellent venue for a casual family meal. Conveniently located on the ground level of Vivo City, this Australian steakhouse is named after the renowned wine region in South Australia. I have always mistaken it for a Spanish restaurant due to its Spanish-sounding name. It turns out that the region was named after the Barossa Ridge in Spain, where a famous battle was fought.
We began our meal with their Barossa Seafood Appetizer Platter, which is suitable for 2-4 people. It features Calamari, Truffle Butter Baked Queen Scallop, Gambas Al Ajillo, and Spring Bay Mussels. The mussels were delightful and our favorite dish on the platter. The calamari rings were a tad dry, and the honey sauce was slightly too sweet for my taste.
Before getting to the beef, we have to highlight their Blackened Tasmania Salmon. The fish is aged for 2 weeks in their special aging fridge. It is then fried in butter with Cajun spices. The flavour was excellent and well worth a try! It was served on a bed of potato salad which was lovely.
Finally, we reached the beef course that featured a very flavourful 30-day aged Australian Black Angus Tomahawk Steak (1.2kg). Still trending in steak circles, the tomahawk is essentially a thick ribeye steak with the rib bone attached. The extra-long bone that is frenched to resemble a tomahawk weapon, allows the steak to be maneuvered easily over the BBQ grill, by holding the bone with a gloved hand.
I feel that much like with lobster, you’re paying for the visual appeal. But there is no denying that the steak was beefy and nicely cooked to the right doneness.
Lisa adds:
To complete the Barossa experience, I couldn’t resist trying a wine from Barossa Australia. We were offered the Barossa Boy Double Trouble Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon. After a few mouthfuls of the smooth, bold, earthly red with dark fruit and oaky notes, I understood why it was chosen to pair with the Josper grilled dishes.
Note that the blackened salmon, wine, and dessert are not eligible for the Citi Gourmet Pleasures discount.
Barossa Bar and Grill at VivoCity boasts of a vibrant and cozy dining environment with a very friendly service team. It is a great place to consider for that casual family meal or gathering of friends.

The Feather Blade Steakhouse & Cocktail Bar
We’ve been to The Feather Blade when they first opened in 2019 at Club Street. They have certainly done well for themselves since and have opened a second outlet at the East Coast serving seafood and sandos. They have always prided themselves on serving proper steaks at attractive prices. And they have done this by focusing on value-for-money secondary cuts. The Feather Blade is a steakhouse inspired by renowned London steakhouse Flat Iron.
Feast for Two
We had a taste of their Feast for Two S$64++/pax (S$128++ for two). It is quite competitively priced given that you are getting a multicourse steak dinner. In the video, we give you a rundown of what to expect.
With the feast for two sets, you get to choose two cocktails, followed by the choice of a “decadent” which we featured their Crab Brioche. Then you have a choice of either a Feather Blade Steak, Burger, or Gyudon. That is followed by a Wagyu steak-of-the-month along with a choice of sides. There is enough to eat for small eaters but big eaters might find that you need to order an extra dish.
The restaurant in Tanjong Pagar has a narrow hallway of seating on one side and a bar on the other. It is quite cozy and intimate. It is ideal for a dinner for two or small gatherings.
