Doctor Blogger Leslie Tay Loves Unique Delicacies

Many doctors and Singaporeans alike love to eat and also enjoy good food. Mention about a doctor who loves to eat, one candidate will come to mind; who is Dr Leslie Tay. Dr Tay not only loves to eat, but after taking off his doctor’s robes, will be seen carrying a camera at various spots scouting for delicacies. Hence, a food blog was started 2 years ago to share his dining experience with everyone.

This issue of Health No. 1 invited Dr Leslie Tay to recommend his 3 favourite restaurants.

Taking Off The Doctor’s Robes To Be A Food Blogger

Before my friends went out to dine every time, they would log on toieatishootipost.sg. He told me that the information the blog has on local delicacies is quite detailed. The owner of the blog Leslie Tay, is a doctor by profession. When having a lunch break during his clinic’s lunch hours, Dr Leslie Tay will bring a camera and go all over Singapore looking for nice food.

Dr Tay said “I’m interested in the local food, so I will log on to the internet frequently in order to look for highly rated chicken rice, char kway teow, hokkien mee etc. but I realized most of the websites do not provide photos for reference. Even if the reviews in words are very good, it will still not be convincing enough without the images.”

As both eating and photography are his personal hobbies, Dr Tay started his own food blog by eating, snapping pictures and blogging it out. Unexpectedly, his blog garnered favourable reviews from around the globe and even won the “Most In-Depth Blog” in the “Singapore Blogs Awards” organized by omy.

Don’t think that Dr Tay forgets about his health as he is always on the lookout for good food.
He says “My daily diets are very healthy, for example I take vegetables and fruits frequently. I also drink milk as the body requires Omega-3.”

Dr Tay also said that although he blogs on a regular basis, he does not stuff himself with food. He said “I planned my schedule, to limit myself to only eat good food 2 to 3 times a week. And I also take note closely of my calories intake to make sure it’s within the healthy range.” Because of self-control, no wonder Dr Tay’s health is still in good shape and he also has a healthy skin tone as well.

Preference Over Hawker Fare

A lot of people think that food bloggers like to go to big restaurants to enjoy a big feast. But Dr Tay said that unless there are new restaurants opening or recommendations by friends or relatives, he will still prefer to patronize hawker stalls. He said “Hawker fare has local delicacies, portray the daily lifestyle and culture of the locals and through the recommendation via the blog, we can let people across the world know more about our dining culture and also to attract them to come forth to taste it themselves.”

Strongly Recommended

As a food blogger, Dr Tay has tasted various delicacies in the past 2 years. Therefore, I asked him to recommend 3 of his favourite restaurants. He recommended the following without any hesitation. Why?

He said “I found out that not only their food is delicious but they are also unique, which made me want to go back for the taste again, becoming a returning customer.”

1. Cuigini Pizzeria

Reason:

The unique point about this Italian restaurant is that all the ingredients used are imported from Italy, and the chefs will only cook upon receiving orders to ensure the freshness of the dishes. For example; the pasta, the chefs use top grade ingredients to ensure every aspect of the taste is well taken of.

2. 双喜菜馆(Double Happiness Restaurant)

Reason:

The friendly lady boss is a culinary expert. Her skills are the restaurant’s live advertisements. The passion she has for cooking has never dimmed, for the many years in the line, she has invented new recipes and dishes. This is the reason why the restaurant is always serving up great tasting food. “Fragrant Prawns” is her latest new dish. The prawn meat is succulent. The taste is hot, sour and sweet, very appetizing. And the prices are very reasonable as well.
