If you love steamed buns, you’ll be glad to know that Lee & Bai have opened their first outlet at Guoco Midtown II. Specialising in handmade Chengdu-style buns, each bun is freshly made to order with dough prepared with a traditional mother starter. The result is a chewy, rustic skin that evokes the kind of handmade buns grandma used to make.
Their signature Cheng Du pork buns are generously filled and brimming with flavour. Other savoury favourites include pickled vegetable and braised pork buns, offering a bold taste of regional Chinese home cooking.
Beyond buns, the menu features traditional noodle dishes and sides that showcase Cheng Du cuisine. Their signature noodle bowl is topped with minced pork in a Sichuan-style chilli oil and soft yellow peas for an earthy, savoury richness.
For something lighter, try the cold beancurd skin side dishes. The beancurd skin tossed in aromatic house-made chilli sauce – an appetising way to start your meal.

The Plump Frenchman: Rustic French Fare in the Heart of Bugis
If you’ve always wanted to enjoy classic French cuisine without the fuss of fine dining, you’ll be glad to know that The Plump Frenchman has just opened at Guoco Midtown II! This cosy Parisian bistro serves soulful French fare, with an open rotisserie taking centre stage.
At the helm is Chef Lorenz Hoja, who I last met years ago when he was at L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon. He now focuses rustic dishes made with quality ingredients.

Centre: Chef Lorenz Hoja
For starters, we enjoyed the Anchois – a deceptively simple dish of peeled tomatoes and anchovies on crusty sourdough, elevated by a generous drizzle of fragrant Picual extra virgin olive oil. The flavours are clean, briny, and beautifully balanced. The Terrine de Champagne was another highlight – rich, flavourful and pairs wonderfully with their rustic sourdough. It is the kind of dish that makes you wish for a bigger slice of bread to mop it all up.
Coming by for lunch? Don’t miss the French Onion Soup (La Soupe À l’Oignon). It’s deeply savoury and hearty enough to be a meal on its own. We also loved the Chipirons — tender baby squid stuffed with chorizo, garlic, and herbs. It’s packed with flavour and a great example of how the kitchen brings creativity to classic dishes.
For mains, we went with the Rotisserie Chicken, which arrived on a bed of sweet, caramelised carrots and onions. The chicken was tender, juicy, and full of flavour. We also had the rotisserie grilled pork ribs which was good but could have been better if the pork had more fat.

They also offer set menus that start at $25++ for a two-course main and dessert.
Opening Special (1 Jul – 3 Aug 2025)
Sip on cocktails, beer and non-alcoholic beverages at 50% off.

Xiang Ju – Hunan Cuisine

After the success of their first restaurant in Chinatown, Xiang Ju has opened its second outlet at Guoco Midtown II, riding the wave of growing interest in regional Chinese cuisine, especially the fiery flavours of Hunan cooking.
Known for its unapologetic use of chilli, garlic, and pickled ingredients, Hunan food is all about intensity, depth, and sweat-inducing spiciness that appeals to gastronomes craving the endorphin rush. One of their signature offerings is the Two-colour Fish Head, smothered in fragrant, house-made chilli sauce that delivers both heat and umami. Another highlight is their indulgent take on Chairman Mao’s Dong Po Rou (Braised Pork), with the addition of abalone for an extra touch of luxury.
For a show-stopping dish, order the steamed fish Dongting Wild White Catfish. This spectacular fish, typically measuring between 80cm to a metre long, is specially imported from Dongting Lake in Hunan and presented dramatically on an unusually long plate. These signature dishes, along with comforting classics like Claypot Rice with Cured Meat made with specially imported waxed meats, reflect the restaurant’s deep commitment to showcasing the richness of Hunan cuisine.

Korio: Hot Sandwiches that Satisfy!

Being a typical Teochew ah hia, I need my food hot to feel like I’ve really eaten. I grew up on hot porridge, bak kut teh, and noodles. So when I crave a sandwich, it has to be something warm and hearty like a hamburger. That’s why Korio has become a local favourite.
Started in 2020 by husband and wife team, Myron and Shaz, Korio quickly gained a cult following for its grilled cheese sandwiches and brioche doughnuts. Now they’ve opened a second dine-in outlet at Guoco Midtown II.
This was my first visit to Korio, and I must say, I was quite impressed with the quality of the sandwiches. The Sausage & Egg is one of those things that hits the spot when you want to eat a hearty breakfast on the go. You get a juicy sausage patty, crispy hashbrowns, sunny side up egg, melted cheese, and a touch of spicy mayo, all nestled in a soft, fluffy bun.
Even the humble Ham & Cheese sandwich was a delight. This one comes with generous layers of ham and oozy melted cheese sandwiched in a toasted sourdough until the outside is golden and crisp.
They’ve also got a Truffle Chicken sandwich on the menu for their new outlet at Guoco Midtown II. It comes with marinated chicken thigh, melty provolone, hashbrown and soft scrambled egg sandwiched in a potato bun. And don’t leave without trying their signature brioche doughnuts. Soft, airy, and rich, they’re perfect for those who like to end on a sweet note or simply something sweet to go with coffee.
Opening Special (1 Jul – 3 Aug 2025)

One of the newest kids on the local kopi scene, this modern kopi joint offers all the familiar favourites such as full-bodied kopi, perfectly cooked soft-boiled eggs, and kaya toast, all served in a cool, air-conditioned space.
If you’re looking to beat the heat, they also have a range of creative drinks like SG Kopilicious, which was created in 2023 for National Day. It is made with brown sugar, oat milk, and coffee jelly. Or you can keep it simple with an iced Kopi-C, their local take on the iced café latte. They also offer quick one-bowl dishes for lunch such as the Smoked Duck Lor Mee and other local favourites!

TAG Espresso

TAG Espresso is a local brand known for its premium coffee capsules made from 100% Arabica beans. At their café, you’ll enjoy the same high-quality coffee – freshly brewed to perfection.
In addition to their signature coffee, they also offer specialty lattes. We tried the Iced Matcha Latte and Iced Hojicha Latte – both were refreshing and full of flavour. We loved the café’s modern, chill vibe. It’s a great spot to relax, recharge, or catch up with friends over a quality brew.
