Restaurant Home: Big, Fluffy, Ugly Paus like those in Johor!
I had my most memorable Pau encounter years ago when my friend David brought our family to Wee Hoi kopitiam for the “grandma” pau. The paus were big, fluffy and rustic looking — something you would expect grandma to make. We arrived at the kopitiam at 12.30pm, sat at the table and waited. There was […]
When I first wrote about New Ubin Seafood in 2011, they were still located amongst the automotive workshops in Sin Ming. The place was the unusual place to find a zi char but it suited New Ubin's founder, Pang Seng Meng, really well as it was the kind of ulu (remote) place that would remind you of Pulau Ubin itself!
The idea of using basmati rice for nasi lemak is not new. But the real skill comes from the deft hands of their Singapore born Cze Char chef who managed to capture the smokiness of the wok fire! This is the best Sambal Kangkong I have had for a long time!

Whenever I head up to Penang, I never fail to have a bowl of Teochew Chendul along Penang road. I have always suspected […]
