Filtrete Water Station: RRP $99.90 at Home-Fix DIY Stores
I have always been very impressed with 3M's innovative products. From Scotch tape to Post-It notes to Command hooks and Scotch-Brite cleaning products, 3M seems to be able to come up with the most useful things that work so well. I felt the same way when I first found out about their new Filtrete Water Station.
I lead a busy life juggling my roles as a father, doctor and blogger, but I always take the time to recharge myself with water. No matter where I go or what I do, I always carry a bottle of water with me – this is how I live hydroactive. So to be able to produce filtered water directly from the tap into bottles seems to be the kind of idea that makes you go "Now why didn't someone think of that earlier?"
I have been looking around for a water filtering system for a while. Our family usually drinks boiled water even though we know that Singapore's tap water is safe for drinking. One of the things that always bug me is the presence of impurities that might contaminate the water. So in the search for purer drinking water, I have looked at some of the more complex filtration systems, but they all tend to be permanent fixtures which you have to install. They are usually quite an investment and the extra work of having to install it just means that the project has been on the shelf for a while.
So the Filtrete Water Station was a bit of a godsend. With it, I can simply fill four bottles of water directly from the tap every morning and each member of the family has a bottle to bring to work and school. The carbon filter acts as an adsorbent to trap small particles and chlorine and works pretty fast so I don't have to wait a long time for the water to pass through. The speed at which the filter works means I can fill all four bottles in about 30 to 40 seconds, which is much faster than traditional pitcher filters.
I am also very happy with the quality of the plastic used. It is solid and doesn't scratch easily, so it still looks good after one month of usage (the video is shot after one month of continual usage). The drinking bottles are also made of BPA free plastic which is very reassuring. In fact, its eco-friendly and practical design won a prestigious Red Dot Design Award in 2012. Carrying your own bottles around instead of buying bottled water also means you can do your bit for the environment!
Filtrete Water Pitcher: RRP $69.90 at Home-Fix DIY Stores
We also have a Filtrete Water Pitcher which we use to place in the fridge for cold water. The main advantage of the Filtrete pitcher over other similar products in the market is that it fills very fast (up to 3 times faster), so you don't have to stand at the kitchen sink and wait. The difference in waiting time might only be seconds or even minutes but it feels like quite a long time when you have to stand there waiting for the flask to fill. I am glad to tell you that the Filtrete pitcher fills fast enough such that you won't have enough time to whip out your handphone to check the latest recommendation on ieatishootipost. ; )
The other thing I like about the pitcher is that it is very slim so it fits into the door shelf of the fridge easily. I also love the way the spout is designed such that the water flows beautifully and smoothly out of the pitcher! It’s no wonder it won a GOOD DESIGN Award! Again the plastic is excellent, so the pitcher still looks great after a month of usage.
You can find the Filtrete Water Station (RRP $99.90) and Water Pitcher (RRP $69.90) at all Home-Fix DIY stores now.
