ieat on Okto Channel's Food Nation: Teochew cuisine

Okto Channel aired a very interesting documentary comparing local Teochew Cuisine to the Teochew Cuisine found in Swatow. I made a brief appearance to comment about Teochew Porridge in Singapore.

I am not sure how you can catch the rest of the show since it has already been aired. I learnt a lot about Swatow where my grandfather came from and hope to visit one day. The series is still showing on Mondays at 9pm. I think they had one on Hainan island too.

I must make a pilgrimage one day to visit the village where my grandfather came from and at the same time taste real Teochew food!

oh this place, havelock... i love their fresh cockles but find them a bit expensive. Now they are more honest, i remember last time (eh abt 10yrs ago haha) when im still young, theres this old man, just point point point.. say $50.. so eventually we find it fishy and got him to state the price one by one.. and then he say oh count wrongly -.- $40 or so.. Long time ago liao but still remember this incident briefly haha.

I've been to Swatow, in 2006 to visit relatives.
The local seafood...oysters and fresh fish, the braised goose, braised duck, the various types of sweet sour nibbles...*salivating*
I need to go back! ^^

Anna, it is not "raw" but pickled crabs. The crab shown in the video is not so common. In the old days, they use the miniature square type called buah kee which are readily available at the wet market stall which sells pickles but sadly no longer available. chaozhouzi
