The Polls: Singapore's favourite Crab Dish

Based on the comments so far, it looks like Singapore's favourite Crab dish is no longer Black Pepper Crab or Chilli Crab. I am predicting that Crab Bee Hoon might be the current National Crab Dish. Only one way to find out and that is to conduct a poll!

So the poll booth is opened! Tell us which is your favourite crab dish! You get to pick two of your favourite crab dishes.

chili crab leading, maybe chilli crab lovers tend to be shy people who usually do not comment on blogs.

My favorite is Maryland style crabs, but I guess I don't count. ;)

actually find steam crab the best, you taste the sweetness of the meat with a bit of alcohol fragrant that was added during steaming.

Maryland style crabs- are those the deep fried softshell crabs?

and any crab that ends up in my tummy is my favorite =D

Crabby, it's still early days. It remains to see if Chilli Crab will retain its lead.

It's Crab Bee Hoon & Cold Crab for me =)

Although I think Steam Crab deserves inclusion in the list and Crab Bee Hoon should be considered as one dish, regardless of soup/dry version =)

For me, it's Crab Bee Hoon (Dry) and White Pepper Crab

Its crab bee hoon followed by cold crabs, and salted egg crabs.

I love chilli crab, but I didn't vote for it, because I still can't find any chilli crab that beats my mum's. =)

Just to clarify, are we to vote once only or we are allowed to vote as often as we like a la Asia-Pacific Blog Awards?

ieat said...

Just once will do.

Steamed crabs not an option meh?

ieat said...

Well not many people nominated it during the nomination round

Chili Crabs lead the way! No one challenges the original crabby dish of Singapore.

Maybe should also take a 'live' poll at this Fri's Crab Fest!

ieat said...

Indeed we should!

That's a good suggestion to gauge the favourites! Conducting an impromptu live poll after the dishes are served sounds great. We'll fit it into the itinerary ;)

Coming for Crab Fest, I assume? After digging into the various crab dishes, you might just witness a surprise there and then at the poll results!

And I'm still skeptical. I personally think Chilli Crabs are overrated. We'll see =)

DD:

I also felt steamed crabs could have been an option. Pity that.

@ Holy Drummer: Actually, the poll on Fri will just be specific to favourite crab dish at Chin Huat. Maybe the cook will 'kelong' the poll by cooking his favourite crab dish very very nice, and the rest mediocre! Hah Hah...

My last ieatishootipost event was the very 1st 'for charity' meal at Aston's Prime (Joo Chiat) which is when I first met all you guys. Looking forward to Fri!

out of curiosity, what's the sample size so far?

ieat said...

You can see the sample size by clicking on the comment button at the bottom of the polling widget. Currently 898 people have voted.

It may be interesting to find out if the number of stalls/restaurants selling the type of crab dishes correspond to the popularity of the dish. For example, if there are lesser outlets (distribution, in marketing terms) selling cold crabs, will this dish be less eaten and appreciated? Likewise the more widely 'distributed'/available crab dish the more people tried it and vote for it.

Once I had eaten tang hoon cooked with crabs in a metal pot. It was somewhere in sembawang. Personally, I thought that it was the best crab i had, with the crab taste nicely embedded in the tang hoon. Sadly, it has since been tore down. Does anybody know anywhere that sells crab cooked in that manner?

it will be interesting to know which of the dishes have each voter tried. Crab bee hoon is such a luxury item that I doubt more than a handful have actually tasted it.
