Wow amazing Doc! You're going to be one of the judge!!

So you have tried the char tau kueh already?Passable?

The new one is definitely better than the old one! She learnt how to steam her own carrot cake rather than get it from a factory.

Derrick, I think I know what you're trying to pick up at Elias Mall. Buy a few extra coffee socks. I'm gonna get more soon too.

I prefer black but at some places, the white is definitely better.

I am gonna miss this on tv.
Heading to Airport to send cousin off to Norway. =(

i went to try the carrot cake last week after noticing the new signboard that the program had placed at the stall... BUT... it tastes bad!!! the carrot cake was too soft and all messy...

Hope they make it. If not, really sad... after all the efforts.

The new one looks better than old one but after the hard work the carrot cake still doesn't look very appetizing.

Well, I think we must remember that these are ordinary hawkers trying to make ends meet. They are not the super passionate ones who run the most famous stalls around.

I think that the new carrot cake is far superior to the old one. I think that tastewise the carrot cake is very good. However, they still need to work on the texture of the carrot cake which is a bit too soft.

I think the lady still needs to practise more to get the frying right. The husband is much better. I don't know why he doesn't just take over the frying for the next few weeks and capitalize on the opportunity to win new customers.

But everyone has their own reasons I guess. At the end of the day, the program gives these people a chance at turning around their fortunes. Some will succeed and some will go back to their old ways. The point is that the producers have at least given them the break they are looking for.

Thanks for the link Christine!

ieat, that is well said, than papasan will have to make-sure we will "pass-by" that place. Thanks :) Appreciate your effort to remind us :)

Derrick said...

yes, just like gordon ramsay's kitchen nightmares, this programme allows us to help hawkers in need, give them the opportunity to turn things around

Bravo ! maybe leslie can suggest to them to do a follow up episode the next season to see if how the hawkers are doing.

Derrick said...

if i am not wrong, the texture is determined before u even fry it...

does it have to do with the pre frying preparation ?

hmmm.. a bit off topic here ...btw cactus, we should go try the blk 124 toa payoh or the blk 341 amk cze car too !

Yes they do deserve a chance. Will support them when I'm around the area. Will be going there coz my tau huay making implements are found in the same mall.

My apologies up there. Clicked the publish your comments button when it didn't work (slow Net traffic) and to my horror, the same post came up thrice. ; (

But more insights on this couple. When I visited the other day, I felt that they are such nice and warm folks. Very sincere. I think this programme should continue for many many seasons, to help others in need. : )

I actually just watched the show thks to Christine's link to the video. She's quite different when we visited. She was smiley and warm, unlike how she portrayed herself when learning. Even the 2 emcees whack her for her attitude. I guess its built up thru years of lack of confidence.

One thing that stood out for me is the love the daughter has for her. Very touching. Her hubby also did his part to support her. Now I really wanna go try it. : )

Derrick, tune in this coming Mon, 17 Aug as the show will have a segment on the followup of the previous week featured stall. It lasts about a min or two. If it follow last season's format, there will be a follow up at the end of the season to see how all the featured stallholders fare after their "training". Been following last season but present season a bit lacklustre. Only 3 make it out of 6, this one did - due to one kind soul at the last min!

chaozhouzi, do join us in the forum if you haven't. : )

This episode very interesting.

I finally saw the episode and must say that I didn't even understand what ieat was saying during his introduction... hee hee

Anyhow, I just don't understand why cant that man do the frying since he is "so good"... why must his wife do the frying? Does anybody know what he does? I'm not sure I like how the show make the lady out to be the lazy obstinate one and he "who just goes around drinking" the long-suffering one. I agree with cactusKit that it is probably years of pent-up frustrations that led her to behave the way she did..

Pong said...

I agree Rocket Girl, he needs to brush up on his chinese. hahaha.

When he says "carrot cake", it just sounds funny.

cactuskit said...

Actually his chinese does sound slightly off but that adds to his persona! Hahhahaha.
