Apollo Fresh Cockle Fried Kway Teow: Wet Wet Wet

To be very honest, this is the ugliest plate of Char Kway Teow I have ever laid eyes on. But it is also the most unique Char Kway Teow I have ever come across.

It is almost like a Hor Fun since the Kway Teow still white in colour and it is swimming in the sweet black sauce gravy. Although the stall's name is Apollo (probably named after the Apollo lunar missions of the 60's) it is better known as the Wet Char Kway Teow of Marine Parade Hawker Centre.

If you like sweet stuff, you will like this Char Kway Teow as the gravy is very much on the sweet side. As I said, the Kway Teow does not taste like it has had enough contact with the wok. But overall, a better than average plate of Char Kway Teow and certainly very unique. 3.75/5

Conclusion

Just gotta try it at least once to decide if you like it or not.

Tried this fried kway teow, I dont like it. It is too sweet. Guess it is because it has only kway teow no yellow mee...

More for those who likes sweet stuff.

Wanton mee? I would suggest you try the one at Margarent Drive FC.

It is located at #01 floor. It is sold by an auntie. (lunch time only) She made the char siew herself and it is self service (Chillie, pork lard, etc ...)

But be careful! because she is not very friendly.

margaret drive wonton mee is worth a try. not bad. i know the auntie, cos her daughter is a friend of mine. and yes, she makes the charsiew herself.

better try before she retires. she was on the verge of retirement a couple years back, but then decided she couldnt bear to give up the business as she was too bored.
single handedly brought up the whole family selling her wonton mee.
ask to put the sweet char siew sauce over the noodles for extra kick.

The distinct taste of this CKT is the guy uses ONLY kway teow, very garlicky and very very wet.

One man's meat is another's poison. Personally, I hate it. I still prefer Hill Street CKT all the lard all the guilt....hmmm sinfully good.

Hv this very wet kway teow a month ago. Must say I dun quite really like it cos it's too sweet. It does not have the smell of what a normal CKT should have. Still like the Zion road food centre CKT.

Margaret Drive has a Teochew Char Kuay Tiao which always have a long queue during evening time .One man operation. Fresh and big cockles !
Worth waiting even minute for his CKT.

Visited this stall 2 months ago, the cook had tweaked the dish and is no longer as shiok as before. He must have read those who complained here that it is too sweet/garlicky/wet for it is less of all three. To me these 3 flavors combine to impart the taste that make this dish stand out but alas no longer.

''Apollo Fresh Cockle Fried Kway Teow''...Those who stay around Marine Parade should had know this stall. Me as a CKT Die hard Super Lover since young had try all the best stall in Singapore, had never liked this stall when i was a boy.

I remember when the first time i went to this stall, the first thing i saw was the Queue. Yes~! Back when it was still ''Famous''..the line was as long till the toilet and u need to wait half and hour for it...As for the Look, it was the most ugly and weird looking char kway teow and for a moment i doubt if i should really take a bite...But what really good about it was the Taste. Thou it look like some Mix up Hor Fun cooked in Penang Char teow style; the taste was...''special''..never had i try a char kway teow that tasted this way.

As i grow up and getting busy with my study, i kind of stop visting this stall. I did went back there 3 different time this past 1 and a half year..And what really weird about them is the style they cook. Out of the 3 time i went back, only one time they cooked it the old style. But Sadly, i prefer the way they cook the 2 ''different'' time..less sweet and more Fried

Atleast one thing never change about this stall. The Green plate and that special Spoon

So pray tell, which is the best CKT stall in your opinion.

samuel/sammy said...

In my Opinion, the best is 302 Newton Char Kway Teow: Serangoon Way Food Centre..But too bad the old owner retired lei~..Haiz~...

Another one is the Lai Heng Fried Kway Teow at Shunfu Market. Long History behind this stall~..

Hai Kee is also another nice stall

And i agree with that u say about ''The End of Char Kway Teow''..Char Kway Teow is really a Endangered Hawker dishes...There are so many Char Kway Teow Stall over singapore But the best Stall..Hardly any left~..Haiz~..

You may want to try wok & roll at circuit rd food center, new generation hawkers, but the char kway teow is comparable to few of the best ones here.
